Our hall is an excellent venue for receptions, children’s parties, meetings, presentations, dances and shows – in the heart of the Dorset countryside.

Child Okeford is a delightful North Dorset village, beautifully set at the foot of the National Trust’s Hambledon Hill. Our village hall in a fine Edwardian building which has been at the centre of village life since 1909. Over the decades it has been sympathetically cared for and modernised and in 2014 £120,000 was raised for an extension and thorough refurbishment. The hall now provides a modern, flexible, well equipped space while retaining the period features and traditional ambiance which are the key to its charm.

Update 31 July 2020 – Covid 19

The Village Hall Committee wish everyone a safe and healthy summer as the COVID 19 restrictions are gradually lifted. The Executive Committee recently held a socially distanced meeting in the garden of the Treasurer to discuss the possibility of re-opening the hall post COVID 19 closure. The discussion centred around the ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) information sheet “Re-opening Village and Community halls Post COVID 19 closure”. After a lengthy discussion it was decided that the hall would remain closed for the time being to all users. The committee do not feel that they are in a position to safely re-open at the moment. This decision will be reviewed as the situation changes and in the light of subsequent government guidance. Before re-opening, the committee will need to identify the necessary safety, compliance, management and operational issues and have a plan in place to address and mitigate them. A risk assessment will be undertaken. We have been in contact with the club representatives and asked them to canvas the views of their members re. possible re-opening dates.

The Village Hall AGM will be postponed until further notice and all the committee will continue to serve in their current roles.

We are grateful to Alan Short for his weekly check of the hall, during which time he runs the taps and flushes the toilets to avoid any risk of Legionnaires disease. Thanks also go to Roger Hull and a small group of villagers who are watering and maintaining the attractive window boxes, which are looking splendid.
